2nd Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival Truck Pull Rules

Classes

Eight (8) classes with no restriction on registration limit. Two (2) free passes per truck. Additional passes may be purchased for $5.00 per person


General Rules

  • Pull will take place on June 13, 2020.
  • No alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
  • Double hook in one class only.
  • All minors must have written consent of parent or guardian, and must be at least 17 years of age to pull.
  • All entries must be made and fees paid at judges stand for pulling classes at least one-half (1/2) hour before class is scheduled to pull.
  • Only two (2) drivers allowed per truck, and driver must remain seated while pulling and retain one (1) hand on the steering wheel at all times.
  • All classes will have a floating finish.
  • Pull will begin with tight chain.
  • Trucks are limited to a one (1) place pay-out, highest finish will be paid.
  • Clevis/hitch on truck must have a minimum 3 1/2 inch opening.
  • The first driver in each class has the option to drop to the third position.
  • At the conclusion of each individual’s pull, they shall cross the scales for an official weight. Scales will be located at the pull site. An optional weigh-in for each truck will be allowed prior to each entry in each class but will not be considered an official weight.
  • All trucks must be in neutral or park while being hooked to, or unhooked from, the sled.
  • Any part of the truck that comes off and falls to the ground, or has an excessive loss of fluid while hooked to the sled, will be an automatic disqualification.
  • Pulling positions will be determined by draw before each class starts.
  • Payout will be based on number of trucks in each class.
  • SAFETY IS VERY IMPORTANT!
  • Judges’ decisions are final. Judges have the right to stop and/or disqualify any contestant if a truck is being operated in an unsafe manner, or if cheating is suspected.
  • In case of rain, pull will be canceled and entry fee refunded if class has not started or pulled.

Specifications

Class 1 – 6500 lb Small Block Street Stock Trucks
(5 Truck Minimum)

  • Must be small block (351 is a big block)
  • Must be pump gas, 93 octane or less. No racing fuel, alcohol or E85.
  • No nitrous, nitrous bottles or propane.
  • Must have 2″ suspension travel, front and rear.
  • Must have factory wheelbase.
  • 6500 lb. max weight; added weight allowed.
  • Must have DOT street legal tires, no cut tires.
  • No ladder bars or airbags.
  • 24″ hitch height.
  • Only 1 of 3 mods allowed (Intake/Carb, Headers, Camshaft).

Class 2 – 6800 lb Big Block Street Stock
(5 truck minimum)

  • Must be pump gas, 93 octane or less. No racing fuel, alcohol or E85.
  • No nitrous bottles or propane.
  • Must have 2″ suspension travel, front and rear.
  • Must have factory wheelbase.
  • 6500 lb. max weight. Added weight allowed.
  • Must have DOT street legal tires, no cut tires.
  • No ladder bars or airbags.
  • 24″ hitch height.
  • Only 1 of 3 mods allowed (Intake/Carb, Headers, Camshaft).

Class 3 – 5500 lb 2WD Trucks

  • 5500 lb. max weight.
  • OEM cast iron production engine only.
  • Cast iron cylinder heads, no aluminum heads.
  • 478ci or less.
  • 850 CFM max carb, 4150, 5160 holly flange. No dominators, barry grants or split carbs.
  • Naturally Aspirated only.
  • SFL approved harmonic balancer or 360* cover.
  • Gas only. No alcohol E85 or fuel additives.
  • 1 ton rear or less.
  • Duel disc clutches are allowed.
  • 36″ min hook point to center of rear axle.
  • 30″ max hitch height.
  • Hanging weight not to exceed 60″ from front axle centerline.
  • Rigid suspension permitted.
  • DOT tires only. No cut tires.
  • All U-joints to be shielded 360*.
  • Must have working kill switch.
  • Blowproof bell-housing 1/4″ steel around bell-housing. Auto transmissions must have SFI approved blanket with flywheel covered. All bolts must be in bell-housing.
  • Batteries in cab must be covered.
  • Must have hitch protection.

Class 4 – 6500 lb Hot Street Trucks

  • Must be street legal.
  • Must be 477ci or less.
  • Must be pump gas, 93 octane or less. No racing fuel, alcohol or E85.
  • No nitrous, nitrous bottles or propane.
  • Must have factory wheelbase.
  • 6500 lb. max weight, added weight allowed.
  • Must have DOT street legal tires, no cut tires.
  • 24″ hitch height.
  • All 3 mods allowed (Intake/Carb, Headers, Camshaft).

Class 5 – 8000 lb Street Stock Diesel Trucks

  • 8000 lb. max weight.
  • Truck must be street legal, plated and insured.
  • Driver must have valid driver’s license.
  • Single CP 3 pump.
  • Turbo charger is limited to stock turbo. No billet wheels.
  • No injectables (i.e., NOS, propane, water meth, #2 Diesel ONLY)
  • No hanging weights are allowed.
  • OEM Reese style hitch.
  • Must be OEM frame and body.
  • Suspension blocks are allowed, no rigid suspensions; tractor bars ARE allowed.
  • U-Joint shields & driveshaft hoops are REQUIRED.
  • Exhaust turn-up or stack IS required.
  • 3/8″ cross bolts in the exhaust are NOT required but HIGHLY recommended.
  • Truck MUST have OEM transmission and transfer case.
  • Must use OEM fuel tank, NO fuel cells.
  • Interior must be complete and all seats intact.
  • 26″ hitch height.
  • Hitch must have a minimum 3 1/2″ opening.
  • DOT approved tires; no studs or chains; no cut tires.
  • Max 35″ tires, 18″ wide.

Class 6 – 8000 lb Work Stock Diesel Trucks

  • 8000 lb. max weight.
  • Truck must be street legal, plated and insured.
  • Driver must have valid driver’s license.
  • Dual CP3 pumps allowed.
  • Turbo charger is limited to a stock-appearing turbo. 2.5″ max.
  • No injectables (i.e., NOS, propane, water meth, #2 Diesel ONLY).
  • Hanging weights are allowed.
  • OEM Reese style hitch.
  • Must be OEM frame and body.
  • Suspension blocks are allowed, no rigid suspensions; tractor bars ARE allowed.
  • U-Joint shields & driveshaft hoops are REQUIRED
  • Exhaust turn-up or stack IS required.
  • 3/8″ cross bolts in the exhaust are NOT required but HIGHLY recommended.
  • Truck MUST have OEM transmission and transfer case.
  • Must use OEM fuel tank. NO fuel cells.
  • Interior must be complete and all seats intact.
  • 26″ hitch height.
  • Hitch must have a minimum 3 1/2″ opening.
  • DOT approved tires; no studs or chains; no cut tires.
  • Max 35″ tires, 18″ wide.

Class 7 – 6500 lb. Altered 4×4 Trucks

  • 6500 lb. max weight; may have added weight.
  • Racing gas permitted. No Methanol, Alcohol or E85.
  • No nitrous or bottles. Altered wheelbase and blocked suspension allowed.
  • 24″ max hitch height.
  • Naturally aspirated engine only. No aftermarket fuel injection, 850 DFM dual pump carb max.
  • Ladder bars permitted.
  • Must have working kill switch.
  • No springs required; must be safely fabricated.
  • Any DOT approved tires, no cut tires.
  • Must have driveshaft hoops, front and rear.
  • Radiator must be ahead of the motor, behind the grill.
  • Standard transmissions must have blow proof bell-housing.
  • Blowproof bell-housing 1/4″ steel around bell-housing. Auto transmissions must have SFI approved blanket with flywheel covered. All bolts must be in bell-housing.

Class 8 – 7800 lb. 2.5/2.6 Diesel Trucks

  • 7800 lb. max weight. Hanging weight permitted; not beyond 60″ center of front axle.
  • 24″ hitch height. Hitch must be no closer than 44″ from center of rear axle.
  • Solid rear suspension permitted.
  • OEM axle and drivetrain required; 1 ton or smaller.
  • Turbo limited to single 2.5″ inducer bore with.250″ MWE. Will be measured with 2.505″ plug. Exhaust housing limited to T-4. 2.6″ smooth bore allowed.
  • #2 Diesel only. Fuel must be commercially available. No injected enhancers of any kind.
  • Cylinder heads must be OEM cast.
  • 3/8″ cross-bolts required in exhaust.
  • Exhaust MUST exit upward, either through the hood or the bed.
  • U-Joint scatter shields required.
  • Air to water intercoolers are not permitted.
  • 35″ tall tire max. Single DOT wheels only, no duals.
  • SFI bell-housing and/or blankets required.

Class 9 – 800 lb Open Diesel Trucks

  • 8000 lb. max weight.
  • 26″ hitch height.
  • Single turbo.
  • 3/8″ cross bolts required.
  • Exhaust must exit upward.
  • u-Joint shields required where visible from side of truck.
  • Driveshaft loops required.
  • Limited to single turbo.
  • Limited to 35″ DOT street tires.
  • Bell-housing blankets & SFI flywheels encouraged.
  • No nitrous or propane injections.

Test & Tune

  • $80 per truck, includes evening pull
  • Dyno – 12:00 noon ($80 for 3 runs)
